Day 28: Macmillan Coffee Morning

The last couple of months have been all about spinning plates – this post has been sitting on my To Do pile since September…my bad. I’ve been looking forward to writing it, because it’s about two important things in life: cake 😉 and charity. On Day 28 of #100DaysNoTV I hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning at my place.

Macmillan Cancer Support held their first ever Coffee Morning way back in 1990 and since then they’ve raised a whopping £138 million. Little wonder it’s known as the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning! If you’ve never been to one, look out for one local to you next September; it’s easy to search using your postcode on their website. There are bound to be a few near you run by local groups, or you could host one yourself!

I may have mentioned this once or twice before, but Rob really is the best chef and baker in our house. For my coffee morning I wanted to bake something myself, so after asking on Twitter for simple recipe suggestions, I went for Lemon Drizzle Tray Bake. It’s a Mary Berry recipe, don’t ya know! (No pressure.)

Everyone who came was so generous and we ended up with a very full table of yumminess. Even with six children in the house we had plenty left for doggy bags!

We had vegan chocolate brownies, sponge cake, carrot cake, iced cupcakes, cherry & almond loaf, tiffin, mocha cupcakes, rum baba, Victoria sponge, pasteis de nata (Portuguese custard tarts), raspberry & coconut cupcakes and lemon drizzle cake! Hungry yet??

Macmillan make it super simple to host a Coffee Morning. There’s no set date: they can be held throughout September. You receive a pack with fundraising ideas, a few decorations, and easy ways to pay in your money. All you do is choose a date and invite your friends!

And, what a lovely, relaxing way it was to spend a Sunday morning. I don’t think I ate again for three days! In all we raised over £100 – our contribution to a simply awesome charity. The next one is already in my diary for September next year; hopefully we can raise even more. 🙂

Have you hosted a Macmillan Coffee Morning? Or have you been to one? I’d love to hear all about it. If you were to host one, what would you bake? Let me know your favourite sweet treats by commenting below!

Bye for now!
