Before going to my first yoga class, I’d tried it at home using a DVD and YouTube. It isn’t easy getting into your downward-facing dog or maintaining balance for your warrior pose while keeping an eye on the screen! For Day 50 of #100DaysNoTV I joined Sally at her Yoga Hut so I could learn how to do it properly.

Day 33: My First Sportive
In October 2016, Rob took part in his first organised cycling event: the Palace to Palace ride in aid of The Prince’s Trust. He enjoyed it so much that cycling has become a hobby of his, and he encouraged me to get a new road bike so we could go cycling together. With slight trepidation, I agreed and I bought the little beauty below.
Fast forward nine months to July 2017 and my first mass participation cycling event. Day 33 of #100DaysNoTV sees me take part in my first Women on Wheels charity ride through Suffolk.
Day 26: Cambridge Wineathlon
I’m not a serious runner but over the last year or so I’ve become more committed, taking part in the Cambridge Race for Life 10k and the Grand East Anglia Run 10k. My Strava app records every run I do, and last November I joined Run Mummy Run (RMR): an online community of mummies who like to run and support others. This group organised last December’s Advent Streak. 🙂 On Day 26 of #100DaysNoTV I ran in my first team event with some RMR girls.
The Cambridge Wineathlon was a not-at-all-serious 10k run through the pretty villages of Foxton, Fowlmere and Newton. I signed up with a couple of RMR girls and our group grew from there. Where’s Wally? is a staple uniform at some local parkruns, so it was the natural choice for the Wineathlon too! Don’t we look good?! 😉
Day 15: Advent Streak
Between August and November 2015 I didn’t do a lot of running. I was so disappointed in myself; I’d trained hard for my first 10k last July. Needing to find some motivation, I joined Run Mummy Run – an online community of women runners – and signed up to their Advent Streak: a commitment to run every day from 1st to 24th December. On Day 15 of #100DaysNoTV I completed the challenge.
During my Advent Streak I kept a light-hearted personal diary with a short note after every run, as I wanted to keep a record of how it felt for me, and I thought I’d share it with you. 🙂
Day 8: Race for Life 10k
My first ever sponsored event was a walk with my judo club; I was eight years old. I don’t remember how far we walked or how much we raised, but I remember being tired and glad when we reached the end. Fast forward 30 years and I’m taking part in my first ever 10k run on Day 8 of #100DaysNoTV.
Fitness: Date night running
Normally when I think of the words “Date Night”, my mind conjures up images of a romantic meal, a walk by the river or a late night movie. On 3rd June it was #NationalRunningDay so, rather than doing one of the above, Rob and I took the chance of an evening run together around Ely.
Fitness: Race for Life
Training begins in earnest. In just over 10 weeks I’ll be taking part in the Race for Life, an annual fundraiser in aid of Cancer Research UK. It’ll be my fifth time taking part in the event, but the first time doing the 10k. In fact, it’ll be my first 10k race ever – I really wanted to push myself this year.
So, what’s my motivation?
My first Race for Life was in 2001. At that time I didn’t have any close family or friends who had experienced life with cancer. The motivation then was to raise money for a charity focused on an illness which surely would affect people close to me in the years to come.
Sure enough over the intervening years, that became the reality.
